VINAY GOVIND

😇 pc_ Shani and thats routine..!!.jpg

Wacky, out-of-the-box, and relentlessly creative—Vinay Govind doesn't just direct films; he builds worlds. He is a filmmaker defined by versatility and a meticulous approach to the craft.

A graduate of Visual Communication from Loyola College, Chennai, Vinay cut his teeth in the high-decibel world of advertising, assisting National Award-winning director V. K. Prakash on a multitude of global brand campaigns.

Transitioning into feature films, he served as Associate Director on era-defining Malayalam hits such as Beautiful and Trivandrum Lodge before making a breakthrough independent debut with Kili Poyi—widely recognized as India’s first stoner film. His follow-up, the retro-heist Kohinoor, proved his ability to blend box-office appeal with technical finesse and chart-topping musicality.

Known for a rare comic flare and a pen that never sleeps, Vinay has built a career on genre-bending storytelling. His recent work spans diverse genres—from the heartfelt social dramedy of Get-Set Baby to his current high-profile feature, Thaaram, starring Nivin Pauly and a revenge-action drama starring Asif Ali.

Vinay is a stickler for the craft, famously obsessing over paperwork and pre-production "to the T" before the camera ever rolls. A true nomad of the industry, he effortlessly transforms Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, or Kochi into his creative base camp.

Trivia: If the title track of 'Kili Poyi' sounds familiar, that’s Vinay on the mic—because sometimes the director is the only one who can hit the right note.
